The Redsoxs and Yankees have been a part of Major League Baseball's history for as long as remembered. They share the same division, and neither team has any love or respect for each other. Now for the first time since 2018, the two teams will face each other in a playoff game...
On April 26th, 1901 the Yankees and Redsoxs met for the first time. The day the biggest rivalry in baseball was born.
In 1903, the Redsoxs won their very first world series, Beating the Pittsburgh Pirates. 20 years later the Yankees would win their first. By time New York won a title, Boston already had FIVE.

The Legendary 1938 Redsoxs vs Yankees brawl...
When the Yankees treated a crowd of 81,841, one of their largest gatherings ever, by sweeping a May doubleheader from the Red Sox, Powell spoiled the day when he engaged in an ugly fight with Boston shortstop Joe Cronin after pitcher Archie McCain nailed Powell in the stomach. The public display of fisticuffs turned private when the two later reconvened under the stands. Powell was docked with a small fine and suspended three days by the American League office.
There was always a rivalry between the Sox's and Yanks. But, when it really heated up was in 1938, where a legendary fight took place on the field.
Yankees Jake Powell, shared blows with Redsoxs Joe Cronin, sparking a life-long rivalry between them.
New York had just won 2 WS titles back to back and continued to build a better and better roster at the time of the incident.
That season New York was without 23' year old star, Joe DiMaggio, who demanded more money from the Yankees. He did eventually sign a $25,000 dollar deal.

The Legend, Babe Ruth makes his MLB Debut with the Boston Redsoxs, July 11th, 1914.
In Ruth's debut, he pitched 7 inning's and scored a 4-3 wins over the Cleveland Indians, (Now known as the Cleveland Guardians).
He hit 49 Homeruns as a Boston Redsox, driven in 230 runs.

Redsoxs trade Babe Ruth to rival, New York Yankees.
On January 5, 1920, the New York Yankees major league baseball club announces its purchase of the heavy-hitting outfielder George Herman “Babe” Ruth from the Boston Red Sox for the sum of $125,000. In all, Ruth had played six seasons with the Red Sox, leading them to three World Series victories.
If both fanbases were asked if the Ruth trade added any intensity to the rivalry, both would likely say YES

Now 101 years after the trade, the two rivals will face elimination from the playoffs In a winner moves on, loser go's home game between them. Tuesday, October 5th, American League Wildcard matchup. 8:08pm Eastern. The winner, ironically will face another rival, the AL East champion Tampa Bay Rays.
