In 2017 he suffered a lip laceration after taking a 90+ MPH fastball in the face in a game on the road against the Minnesota Twins.
Jones missed a good portion of games after the injury, now you won't see JaCoby step up to the plate without a chin protector on his helmet

JaCoby was highly thought of when it came to his insane ability to make plays on defense. Roaming Comerica Park almost daily for years in Center Field there was no shortage of incredible highlights. Nobody questions JaCoby Jones was an incredible athlete in Detroit and played to his best ability. Best of luck to JaCoby Jones moving forward in his career. #Tigers
