The Michigan Wolverines have had a great start to the 2021 college football season as they are currently undefeated with a 3-0 record. Defensively Aiden Hutchinson is without a doubt their best player. But, is Hutchinson their best player on the team?. Perhaps Blake "Lightning" Corum has something to say about it...
Coming into 2021, most Michigan fans/media members thought that clearly DE Aiden Hutchinson would be the best player on the team, and he is having a incredible year and is without a doubt a incredible player. But, easily the most productive and efficient player on the Wolverines roster has been RB Blake Corum. Head Coach Jim Harbaugh has run the ball early and often in their three match ups this season and his team has dominated on the ground. Currently Michigan leads CFB in Rushing yards (1051) and Rushing Touchdowns (15). Corum is only 5' 8", 193 pounds. But, he made his size worth value with his elusiveness and speed. Last season Corum had 26 carries for 77 yards and 2 touchdowns. Keep in mind it was his first season in college and it was a shortened season. This season Corum hit the ground running. In THREE GAMES this season he already has 48 carries, 407 yards, 7 Touchdowns. Even more impressive is even with those numbers he shares carries with Michigan's starting RB Hassan "Thunder" Haskins.
who isn't as much of a big play threat as Corum. Haskins is more efficient in the RedZone or on 3rd downs. But, Haskins still receives plenty of carries. Hassan Haskins has one more carry than Corum, but Corum has 126 more yards than Haskins. This week Corum was ranked 2nd most likely to win the Heisman trophy just behind Ole Miss, Quarterback Matt Corral.
The Heisman Memorial Trophy is awarded annually to the most outstanding player in college football. Winners epitomize great ability combined with diligence, perseverance, and hard work. It is presented by the Heisman Trophy Trust in early December before the postseason bowl games.
This is one of the most prestigious trophy's a football player can recieve.
Most recently won by former Alabama Crimson Tide, Wide Receiver DeVonta Smith, who was drafted 12th overall by the Philidelphia Eagles in the 2021 NFL draft. The Last Michigan Wolverines player to win the Heisman award was NFL Hall of Fame, Defensive Back Charles Woodson in 1997.

This season the Wolverines have outscored their opponents 141-34 in wins against the Western Michigan Broncos, Washington Huskies, Northern Illinois University.
