Even one of the best players in the game doesn't want to play all day.
The All-Star catcher did an interview with ESPN in where players were asked a series of questions about any problems in the game. The questions included:
- Is either the pace or length of games in baseball a problem?
- Should the shift be regulated?
- Are analytics applied the right way in the game?
- Does the game need fixing?
- If you were a commissioner for a day, what would you do?
Realmuto had his answer featured on the very first question and seems to be a little tired of how much he has to sit behind the plate every night.
He has a point with what he says at the end, the fact a game that has five combined runs lasting for almost four hours doesn't make sense.
Pitchers are taking a while with their mechanics and routine. Aroldis Chapman is a perfect example of this, on Tuesday night against the Braves he was taking at least 30 seconds between pitches. To add on to that if you're going into full counts with a few foul balls here and there it becomes like a five minute at bat.
Realmuto is a catcher so him being bent down on his knees for longs amount of time has to be uncomfortable. He's widely recognized as the best catcher in the game so it shows even the best have complaints.
