KSU Baseball may have found their stride that won’t stop.

Kennesaw State played a game against the University of Georgia on Wednesday that turned out to be one of the biggest regular season wins in program history.

Georgia came into the game ranked fifth in the country after a strong week one. The Bulldogs had not lost to Kennesaw State in the last seven matchups. This dates back to over four years ago with Kennesaw’s last victory coming on Feb 28, 2017. It also dates the first time KSU has defeated a top 10 team 2016.

The game itself was intense with the teams switching leads throughout the early innings. Kennesaw was able to prevail with three runs in the eighth inning to take a 6-4 lead going into the ninth. Kolby Johnson came into relief in the ninth and closed the door on UGA to secure the victory.

Any win is a good win, but this one in particular has given the program and their fans something to hold their heads high about. Anyone can notice it all around from campus energy to social media. Especially after UGA Baseball put a video out on their social media page reviewing the KSU bullpen.

Matteen Zibenejadrad is a writer for the Kennesaw State baseball team on KSUOwls.com, in my discussion with him about the game he made it clear why the energy is so high.

“Beating UGA is a big deal to Kennesaw fans in any sport, it doesn’t happen often so when it does that’s usually cause for excitement here”

The reason there’s cause for excitement other than just winning a big game is because if KSU can take down the big scary monster in Georgia, then imagine who else they can defeat.

“All wins are good for moving forward, but this may cause an uproar for a team that had a bit of a bumpy start” said Matteen about KSU’s win over UGA.

He was right, Kennesaw has back to back wins over the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB). Before losing to Kennesaw, UAB had not lost in two weeks. This shows how much momentum is rolling for the KSU baseball team.

The Owls have one more game before heading into conference play where all this momentum will have to stay if KSU wants a shot at any championship this season.

The way it’s seen as of now, at least on campus and around the city of Kennesaw is that there’s something special happening with this squad this season, and it’s going to be a treat to watch and find out.
