Four must watch Tigers prospects this spring, aside from Torkleson & Greene

The Detroit Tigers have made a splash this off-season, following their 77-85 season, under AJ Hinch 's first season as a Tiger. For Detroit sports fans, this MLB season can't come soon enough, something they haven't been in a big hurry for in years. But as usual before the big league stars hit the diamond for a 162 game push for the postseason, we'll get to take a deeper look at this stacked Tigers farm system. Here is the must watch Detroit Tigers prospects in 2022...

Infielder, Gage Workman

Workman is without a doubt in my mind one of the best prospects in Detroit's farm system and he isn't talked about enough. He was drafted out of Arizona State as a fourth rounder by Detroit in 2020. He was college teammates with current Tigers #1 prospect, Spencer Torkleson, both of them were Sun Devils and each played on both corners of the infield. He absolutely destroyed pitching with the Lakeland Flying Tigers last season. He's been one of the fastest developing players in the system, and I thought he was gonna be called up to AA to play for the Erie Seawolves. He without a doubt will in 2022 and he may even develop fast enough to get to triple A, by time we rap up the 2022 season. In a day where all 4, of the Tigers minor league affiliate's won, Gage Workman hit for the cycle. He finished with, 12 Homeruns, 58 RBI's, .760 OPS, 31 Stolen Bases, and a .246 batting average...

Pitcher, Ty Madden

Ty Madden was the 32nd overall draft pick in this past summers draft. He was the Tigers 2nd draft choice that night. He was considered a steal for Detroit, because prior to the start of the draft, Madden was expected to be a top 10 pick, but fell to Detroit, just before the start of round 2. Madden became a top of the rotation starter for the Texas Longhorns In 2021. Here's a look at his college stats: 15 wins, 7 losses, .682 win percentage, 2.68 ERA, 208.0 inning's pitched, 155 hits allowed, 75 runs scored, 62 earned runs allowed, 12 Homeruns allowed, 86 walks allowed, 228 strikeouts, 1.159 WHIP. He was a great draft choice and will be fun to watch in 2022's addition of Spring training...

Catcher, Dillion Dingler

Dillion Dingler's status in the Tigers future is an interesting topic to discuss. It's unknown whether or not Eric Haase will be here long term or not. You can imagine after Jake Rodgers 2021 season, that he will be. If Haase continue's what he did in 2021 he should be here for the next few years atleast, raising the question, where does Dingler fit in. Rodgers is out for most if not all of 2022 and the Tigers acquired Tucker Barnhart from the Reds this off-season. The Tigers have even been in discussion on extending Barnhart. Dingler didn't have to good of a spring camp last year and had an up & down season with the Erie Seawolves. He fought through injuries as well. His performance in Spring training could determine his future with the organization...

Pitcher, Joey Wentz

Joey Wentz has slid down the Tigers prospect rankings, understandable of course because he has gone through the toughest challenge a pitcher can face. He undergone Tommy John Surgery in 2020. This was his first season back and in September he was shut down. Wentz finished with 82 K's, 4.50 ERA, and 41 walks through 72 inning's pitched. Detroit acquired Wentz in the Shane Greene trade, he came to Detroit with Outfielder, Travis Demeritte. Travis has already been through our systems, played in the Major's and was sent away. He is back with the Braves. Wentz needs a big 2022 season to get his career back on track...
