The BOSTON REDSOXS are moving on after beating their rival, New York Yankees Infront of their home crowd at Fenway Park. Sox's fans are already calling it "Revenge for 78" (Referring to the legendary sudden death game at Fenway park, in 1978 where the Yankees won 5-4) The Redsoxs took down New York in a 6-2 win in the American League Wildcard game that had the sports world buzzing. A ton of history played into the hype. Home Runs and Strikeouts played a big factor in Boston's rather dominant win. Boston was without star outfielder J.D Martinez.
Redsoxs starter Nathan Evoldi, pitched a terrific game, 5/⅓ inning's, striking out 8, allowing just 4 hits and a run.
Boston did something not many teams have ever done. Forcing Yankees skipper Aaron Boone to take out his star starter, Gerrit Cole, after 3 inning's and 50 pitches.
Star Redsoxs shortstop Xander Bogarts took Cole DEEP early. It gave Boston a 2-0 lead.
Then in the bottom of the 3rd, Kyle Schwarber hit an absolute majestic Homerun. It was hit EXTREMELY HARD. 110 MPH off the bat according to stat cast. Schwarber was acquired at the trade deadline. Schwarber made his Redsoxs debut a few weeks later.
Finally it seemed the Yankees were shifting the momentum as Anthony Rizzo, who was acquired from the Cubs at the deadline, smacked a Homer to RF, just past the foul pole.
A baserunning mistake by 6' 7" Aaron Judge may have cost the Yankees in the 4th, after Giancarlo Stanton smacked one off the Green Monster in left field.
Yankees pitchers struggled all night. But, specifically giving up 7 walks, giving Boston lots of opportunities with men in scoring position
In the 7th the Redsoxs, already leading 4-1, put up two more after a Alex Verdugo single. They took a 6-1 lead.
In the 8th the Redsoxs called upon Hansel Robles, who was acquired at the deadline. Robles was playing for the Twins before being traded. Robles pitched a perfect 1-2-3 inning leaving New York down to their last 3 outs.
In the ninth Yankees searching for a miracle, Giancarlo Stanton hit a solo shot with one out.
Two away, fly ball, right center, underneath it is Renfrow, AND THE REDSOXS ARE GOING TO THE ALDS TO FACE THE RAYS!
