In less than one season, AJ Hinch managed to turn around the worst team in baseball to a team fighting for second place in the division. Obviously second place isn’t what you strive for but from where the tigers have been the last 5 years to now im pretty sure all of tigers fans would be okay with finishing in second place.
This offseason is crucial to the tigers rebuild, they need a shortstop more than anything and luckily this Free Agent class is stacked with shortstops. But there is one shortstop who sticks out more than the rest and that is Carlos Correa. Correa is hitting .275, 20 homeruns, 69 RBIs .849 OPS and a 5.6 WAR. Carlos Correa is linked to AJ Hinch because of course they won a world series together in their time with Houston. So landing Correa is a real possibility Ownership just needs to be willing to spend the money.
The Tigers have a young rotation with Mize, Skubal, and Manning, a veteran presence could really impact their development. Justin Verlander who will be a free agent would be a perfect fit for this young rotatio. Verlander who will be coming off Tommy John Surgery has hinted that he would love to finish his career in Detroit. Verlander also spent time in Houston with Hinch as well as Carlos Correa. Verlander won a World Series with The astros in 2017. im pretty sure every Tigers fan would be on board with a Verlander reunion.
AJ Hinch was asked about the upcoming free agent class and this is what he had to say.
"We're going to reestablish ourselves as a winning franchise and develop a winning culture. If you want to be a part of it, then you'll come. If you don't, then we'll beat you." Now i want to believe we will sign some big names but with the scandal im afraid guys wont wanna play for Hinch, but hey maybe money will speak louder.
