Tigers acquire C, T. Barnhart from Reds. What it means for them moving forward

AJ Hinch, AL Avila, and the Detroit Tigers have kicked their off-season into high gear by completing a trade LESS, than 24 hours after the Atlanta Braves won the World Series.

Detroit Tigers on Twitter. "We have our back stop!"

After their biggest season win total since 2016, Tigers fans finally have something to smile about, and we expect this off-season is something to look forward to as well. With high expectations like signing star Astros Short Stop, Carlos Correa or reuniting with Starting Pitcher, Justin Verlander. Although none of that has happened yet, or is a sure thing to happen... The front office has already shown agressiveness, just less than 24 hours since the final out of the fall classic.

What Tucker Barnhart brings to Detroit...

Tucker Barnhart is a 2-time Gold Glove award winning Catcher. At age 30, Barnhart spent his previous 8 MLB seasons as a Cincinnati Red. He brings over better skills behind the plate defensively, although not nearly as powerful than current Tigers Catchers Eric Haase and Jake Rodgers. In 2021 he batted .247, with 7 Homeruns and 48 RBI's. He has a Career average of .248, with 51 Homeruns and 261 RBI's. He also has 6 career stolen bases. As a switch hitter he also brings flexibility in the lineup.

Tucker Barnhart's reaction to being traded to Detroit had some Tigers fans on Twitter saying they had chills.

Tucker Barnhart: "It's bittersweet to be leaving the organization that drafted me, I couldn't be happier to join the Tigers. This is an exciting time for a team that has undergone such a big transformation over the last few years. AJ (Hinch) is one of the best managers in Major League Baseball and I can't wait to work with him, the coaching staff, and other teammates to bring the playoffs and a World Series Championship back to the city of Detroit".

____

It's likely we'll see Haase and Barnhart play behind each other in 2021 with star young catcher Jake Rodgers excepted to miss a large amount of time next season after having to undergoo Tommy John Surgery this season. Rodgers says he is "Pushing" to make sure he plays next year. What's next for Detroit?. Expect an exciting winter Tigers fans.
