Tigers have acquired Meadows from Rays:

Detroit Tigers GM' Al Avila dropped a bomb shell on his fan base the best way he could on Monday evening. Detroit acquired OF' Austin Meadows from the Tampa Bay Rays, in exchange for 3B' Issac Paredes and a competitive balance-B pick in the 2022 MLB Draft. This is a huge acquisition for the Tigers after losing future star Center Fielder, Riley Greene to a foot injury this spring. Greene will only miss a few weeks of the season but with the competition being stronger than it's been in years, that's time Detroit couldn't afford to miss and Avila knew that, so he went out and got a very productive player in Meadows. Reports suggest that when Greene is healthy, he'll be the everyday Center Fielder and Austin Meadows & Robbie Grossman will split time in the OF. Meadows was a huge part of the Rays postseason success the last few seasons, and you'll see why in a moment...

Meadows production at the plate:

Something to expect from Meadows is a big impact at the plate and plenty of production. Detroit signed Robbie Grossman to a 2-year contract last season and his impact was felt all season long, Tigers fans will see that again this season with Meadows, only he'll have a much bigger impact. Austin had a .234 Batting Average, with 27 Homeruns, 106 RBI's, 79 runs scored, and a .728 ops, with a career high, 59 walks... Austin Meadows was picked in the 1st round, 9th overall by the Pittsburgh Pirates where he played one MLB season before becoming a Tampa Bay Ray, that's where he spent his next few seasons and was a big factor in the Rays playoff success the last two seasons. He was an All-Star in 2019, which was his best year statistically. Perhaps the most exciting thing out of this deal is the fact that he's joining Akil Baddoo, Robbie Grossman and eventually Riley Greene in a stacked Tigers Outfield. Detroit will have Meadows under control through atleast 2024...

Meadows brothers reunion:

Something very cool coming from this story is the fact that the Meadows brothers will be on the same organization. Austin's younger brother, Parker Meadows has spent a few years in the Tigers farm system. Parker Meadows was a 2nd round pick in 2018 by Detroit, he's spent most his time in the teams High-A Affiliate, the West Michigan Whitecaps. In 2021 Parker had a .210 Batting Average, with 8 Homeruns, 45 RBI's, 9 stolen bases and a .623 OPS, he has 19 career Minor League Homeruns. The younger brother shared his excitement of the news on Twitter, writing..."What just happened... #gotigers"...

It should be an exciting year of Tigers baseball, Go Tigers!... Thanks for the Read!
