What to expect: Georgia vs South Carolina

The Georgia Bulldogs are heading into the Williams-Brice stadium Saturday night to face the South Carolina Gamecocks on what will be senior day in Columbia. The two teams are 5-5 against each other in the last 10 matchups. Last season South Carolina pulled off a huge upset over the Bulldogs when Jake Fromm threw three interceptions and Rodrigo Blankenship missed a game tying field goal on double overtime to give South Carolina the win.

This matchup will look a bit different. Georgia is coming in with their new quarterback JT Daniels who became the first Georgia quarterback since Aaron Murray to throw for 400+ yards, and he did in his first career start. JT should be able to build on his first game with another good performance. South Carolina is giving up the most passing yards in the entire SEC.

Georgia will have to be able to get their run game going as well. Last game against Mississippi State they ran for only eight yards. South Carolina has the third worst rushing defense in the SEC, so this should be a big offensive game for the Bulldogs.

South Carolina is playing their second game without Will Muschamp. Offensive coordinator Mike Bobo has stepped in as the Interim head coach. Bobo is a former quarterbacks coach/offensive coordinator for the Bulldogs from 2001-2014 under Mark Richt. Bobo may be under matched talent wise but this game is big to him as a head coach.

Last week South Carolina lost to Missouri at home, but may have found a new quarterback in freshman Luke Doty. The Gamecocks had been going with Colorado State transfer Collin Hill, but with the season being as bad as it has they needed to try something different. Doty came in and performed decently well, he was able to produce with his arm and his legs. Saturday is a big game for the Freshman and to try to prove to the fanbase he can be something special.

The Gamecocks are going to have to be creative on offense and take advantage of some key Georgia defensive players still out such as Richard Lecounte. Defensive lineman Jordan Davis is listed as questionable and would make a serious impact if he does get to play.

Both these teams will be hyped up for this game. The Gamecocks have an intense night atmosphere even at only partial capacity. Georgia has a lot to prove after being ranked #9 by the playoff committee. It's time to prove them right.

Georgia should win this game but when it comes to covering the spread (-21.5) I can't feel to confident in that. I see them winning by probably right around 17 to around 21. The Offense will be able to put up points, but with Bobo being on the other side I think so will South Carolina. The Gamecocks will eventually be outmatched by Georgia's talent, but they should stick around for a while.
