Darnell Washington And Tykee Smith Are Both Injured And Now I'm Sad

Being a Georgia fan has always been hard. I've watched us lose a national championship because Tyler Simmons was called offsides. I've seen Justin Fields ride the bench for an entire season and leave the team. I've ached when Chris Conley caught the ball at the 5-yard line and time expired in 2012. I'm used to the pain.

This year is supposed to be something fun though, we have the QB we've wanted that isn't scared to launch the ball downfield, and a running back core full of experience.. Another year of a defense that will easily be top five in the country, and even an All-American punter.

There was already some pain this offseason when George Pickens tore his ACL. It was supposed to be the year of JT Daniels to George Pickens. LSU transfer Arik Gilbert isn't with the team for personal reasons. We were going to be fine though, still plenty of weapons around.

Today brought a tremendous amount of pain though when it was announced that tight end Darnell Washington and cornerback Tykee Smith both have foot injuries and are expected to miss at least three weeks. For anyone doing the math that's 21 days. The Georgia-Clemson game is 16 days away which means I am going to be way more nervous than I already was.

Washington is a 6'7 265 pound monster at his position and really started to come along with JT at the helm. Tykee was an All-American according to Pro Football Focus last year at West Virginia. That says a lot coming from a Big 12 school with notorious for the low amount of defense.

Georgia now sits with four of their top players unavailable for week one. I am not going to give excuses, but man that does not help. I will just be putting all my faith in almighty god of JT Daniels and pray that Clemson comes out looking like they did in 2014 before Deshaun Watson started playing.

The good news is this is why we recruit the way we do, we have depth at every position and it's time we show it against a top five team with the lights brighter than they've been in a while. Go Dawgs.
