We knew that we would see some headlines and maybe some little surprises. But this was a shocker. Cam Newton has been cut from the New England Patriots.
Rookie Mac Jones has taken over and Can Newton is walking out the front door. Cam joined New England after the legendary Tom Brady left the Pats for Tampa Bay. Obviously Supercam had big shoes to fill because Brady previously brought the Patriots 6 superbowl rings and he took the Pats the the playoffs the year before. There was a big question mark with Newton heading to New England and there was even some optimistic players, coaches, fans that believed they could contend even though the Bills looked primed to take over the division. After the first few games it looked like the Patriots were gonna be legit contenders. But after a couple strong games it fell apart, especially with Cam who looked terribly inconsistent. The Bills continued to run away with the division. Perhaps the reason for the fans being so optimistic was Cam's success back with the Carolina Panthers. After being drafted with the very first pick of the 2011 draft, Newton went on to be a superstar at that time. In 2015 he took the Panthers to the superbowl, but Peyton Manning lead his Broncos to a lopsided 24-10 victory in a game Newton didn't play well in. But although Cam didn't accomplish his main goal, he still went onto win NFL MVP. In that 2015 season he threw for 3,837 yards, 35 Touchdowns, 10 interceptions and he had a 99.4 passer rating. He continued to play well with Carolina before departing in 2020. Last season the Pats didn't even make the playoffs for the first time in years and their old pal Tom Brady took his Buccs to the superbowl and beat the Kansas City Chiefs in dominate fashion, adding insult to injury for Pats fans. It looked like Cam wasn't gonna be Brady's successer after 2020, raising the question what will New England do with the 15th overall pick. The fans debated if they would add a defensive player, Wide Receiver or a quarterback and their decision landed on Alabama QB Mac Jones, that raised another debate... Mac Jones or Cam Newton. Today we have answers. Mac Jones has been chosen as Tom Brady's long term successer, Cam has been cut and that means the man they call supercam is available...

Where will Cam go...
Houston Texans
Deshaun Watson has a similar skill set as a young Cam Newton, and Watson has been disgruntled with the Texans for sometime now. If Watson does go their next option on the current roster would likely be Davis Mills who Houston drafted in April. Mills has a lack of experience even In college so it wouldn't be smart to rush him into the NFL and you would need a #2 even if Davis Mills is the starter and SuperCam might be a perfect fit...
2. Indianapolis Colts
The Colts believe that they are contenders this season, well they lost Phillip Rivers to retirement and gave the Eagles a 2nd round pick in exchange for Carson Wentz. Wentz has been notorious for injury's. In 2018 he went down just prior to the playoffs and Nick Foles had to step in. Foles lead them to a superbowl victory in that run. But something like that can only happen once and if history repeats itself either Wentz isn't gonna perform good or the injury bug will bite again. They will need a QB ready to go that has lead a team to contention before so why not Cam Newton.
3. Carolina Panthers
Yes it's possible Cam may come back to his first NFL Home. Current Panthers head Coach Matt Rhule is on the hot seat. They made a bold move trading for former Jets quarterback Sam Darnold who hasn't showed much potential at all and other then Carolina having a superstar running back, the Panthers and Jets are a rather similar team. After Cam left Carolina the fans showed Cam a ton of respect and you could see he really loved the fan base right back. Maybe bringing Can back lifts the fans spirits and gives Matt Rhule a chance to keep his job
4. New York Jets
It's possible that Cam won't even leave the division he was previously in with the Pats. Although the Jets and Patriots are rivals it shouldn't matter now anyway and current Jets quarterback, rookie Zach Wilson is showing plenty of potential but he needs a mentor and somebody to play behind him as a back up. Newton would add a ton to the Jets who are in a rebuild.
Besides new Jets head coach Robert Saleh loves a good competition between 2 players battling for a job. It would make sense for Cam Newton to fit in that scheme.
Thanks for the read, have a great Day/Night.
